What makes MPGLG empowering?
Melanin Poppin’ Girls Literacy Group is a liberatory home space where Black and Brown girls’ voices are affirmed, protected, and celebrated. Through culturally affirming texts, culturally responsive curriculum, positive media messages, leadership programming, culturally affirming events, author visits, and positive role models, our girls move from reading to writing their own stories, gaining confidence, self-belief, and a sense of belonging in every step of their journey!
Culturally Affirming
We use culturally responsive and affirming curriculum, texts, empowering media message and books that celebrate and reflect the experiences of Black and Brown girls.
Change Makers and Leadership Focused
Our program develops essential leadership skills, provide opportunities for girls to engage with and learn from community leaders, and empower them to take initiative in their schools and neighborhoods—building confidence, voice, and a legacy of leadership.
Publication Opportunities
We create platforms for girls to publish, share, and celebrate their stories, so the world can see their brilliance and hear their voices.
The power of voice
At Melanin Poppin' Girls Literacy Group, we believe that every girl's voice matters. Our programs are designed to unlock potential, brilliance, and build confidence in young Black and Brown girls.
Unlocking their potential and brilliance
The most amazing benefit a student could get from MPGLG is realizing that their voice matters, their story is powerful, and they can confidently soar on their life journey!
Addressing any parent and community concerns
Parents, guardians and community want to know that their child or youth will not only improve academically, but also gain confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging. They also want to feel supported and empowered themselves—knowing that MPGLG helps them empower their child while providing tools, guidance, and community for their own growth.
